Hi Dan

I've only heard of this error occurring once before.
I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess that you're running MRtrix on Windows? If so, you're very much better off running the Linux version of MRtrix from inside a virtual machine. Not only should it remove this error (which is caused by Windows not properly freeing used memory and hence your system running out of RAM), it should also run faster.
In addition, it's preferable to use a 64-bit operating system, even if you don't have > 4GB of system memory; it just gives the system more freedom in the way it allocates and manages memory.

In case you're curious; I wouldn't expect MRtrix to run into issues with having too many streamlines until it reaches 32-bit integer overflow, which will happen at about 2-4 billion streamlines.
Dear MRtrix expert,

I am using mrtrix probabilistic fiber tracking to generate a large amount of fibers for TDI. It seems there is a limit of maximum number of fibers to generate, even if I set -maxnum to 0, which suppose to remove any limits. I can at most track ~1 million fibers, and the program will stop itself. For example, I'll get an error message like this
