Just to report back to the group the results of the above.

The patch kindly suggested by Ian works a treat for getting conmap to 
work.  However, it does also significantly break other parts of Camino. 
  For example, the track command which you need to have run prior to 
generating a connectivity map no longer processes the seed file 
correctly (it just crashes out with ROI errors).

Can anybody from the Camino team suggest a fix that makes the 
connectivity maps work but remains compatible with the rest of Camino?
