[Mrtrix-discussion] Preview of next MRtrix major release

Hi Ralf,

The installation process is a bit different than for version 0.2, but it's
all documented on the wiki:
https://github.com/jdtournier/mrtrix3/wiki#supported-platforms--installation

Some of the commands will conflict with the 0.2 version, notably mrconvert,
mrinfo and mrview. That said, there is no need to overwrite the 0.2
installation in any way, you can run them side by side - I'd personally
recommend you keep the MRtrix3 version local to your account, at least
until we release the official version (this is what the current
installation instructions do, by the way). You can then decide which
version to use by manipulating the PATH environment variable to make sure
that the bin/ folder of the relevant version is listed (or at least appears
first), or by calling the executable you want using its full path
(e.g. /home/donald/mrtrix3/bin/mrview
myimage.nii).
