Hi Ralf,
I'm assuming all other commands work ok? Assuming that's the case, yes an
OpenGL issue is the most likely culprit. You should be able to check the
version detected by running mrview with the -debug option - you need at
least version 3.3 for things to run properly. I'm surprised you get a frank
segfault though, I thought I'd added some checks for that...
In any case, if you have a NVIDIA card, you will need to install the
proprietary NVIDIA drivers, which should be a simple process on Ubuntu
using their 'hardware drivers' application. I think the open-source
(nouveau) drivers do work on slightly older hardware with the very latest
versions (which aren't in Ubuntu 14.04 - available in Arch Linux though),
but in general your best bet performance-wise will probably always be the
proprietary ones.
Let us know whether that fixes it.
