<div dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr">Hi everyone,</p>
<p dir="ltr">We are pleased to announce the availability of the next major iteration of MRtrix, MRtrix3. This is a pre-release for interested users, and is hosted on GitHub at the following address: <a href="https://github.com/jdtournier/mrtrix3/wiki">https://github.com/jdtournier/mrtrix3/wiki</a>, along with instructions for installation on all supported platforms (GNU/Linux, MS Windows, MacOSX). The full official release will happen hopefully within the next few months. </p>
<p dir="ltr">As many of you will know, we've been working these last few years on this next major version of MRtrix. This is an almost complete rewrite of the previous version, with a host of new features including a faster CSD implementation, the iFOD2 tractography algorithm, ACT, SIFT & TWI, and a brand new viewer with volume rendering. In due course, it will also include tools for AFD analysis, and a more robust version of CSD as presented at last year's ISMRM, amongst other things.</p>
<p dir="ltr">While you're more than welcome to try it out and use it, please bear in mind that this is not an official release, and there are likely to be further significant changes to the code over the coming months. That said, the code is now very stable and I don't anticipate future changes will cause too many issues for users. Obviously please provide feedback if you do encounter any issues.<br>

<p dir="ltr">One important difference between this and the previous 0.2.x versions is the switch to an orthonormal spherical harmonic basis. What this means in practice is that FOD images generated in one version should not be used in the other. <a href="https://github.com/jdtournier/mrtrix3/wiki/Orthonormal-SH-basis">Please refer to the relevant wiki page for details</a>.</p>
<p dir="ltr">It is also worth mentioning that the viewer uses OpenGL version 3, which requires a decent graphics card with modern drivers. On Linux, this means nVIDIA or AMD proprietary drivers (not the open-source ones). It also means that the viewer will NOT work in a virtual machine or over a remote X11 connection. Thankfully this shouldn't be a problem since this version of MRtrix can be installed natively on all platforms relatively easily. </p>
