brodmann areas brain atlas
Hello all,
Does anyone know  if there is a brain atlas that parcellates the brodmann areas on MRI? I have seen the intractive versions online but I am looking for a downloadable version .
I appreciate any suggestion
Sincerely,
Halleh

RE: brodmann areas brain atlas
Please keep in mind that registering a brain image to an atlas whose brodmann areas have been outlined does not mean that you have established Brodmann areas in your registered brain.  All that registering two brain images together accomplishes is to make them appear similar to one another, and in doing so, we hope that the image similarity reflects anatomical correspondence across the brains.  To further expect that microstructural boundaries follow macrostructural boundaries (that is, histology has a consistent relationship to topography) is still unsubstantiated in my opinion.  Furthermore, most atlases that have been assigned Brodmann labels were never examined under a microscope, so the cytoarchitectural regions even for these atlases are often suspect.

Be careful!

Cheers,
@rno

RE: brodmann areas brain atlas
Yes, absolutely! That's a very good point .
But I am still wondering if there is an atlas that can approximately parcellate the brodmann areas. I need it to better describe my results
Thanks for your comments,
Halleh

Dear Halleh,

There is a so-called Brodmann template that ships with mricron
http://www.mccauslandcenter.sc.edu/mricro/mricron/index.html

I am not sure how it has been generated though.

Best,

I get the impression that the Julich Atlases of
Eickhoff/Amunts/Zilles/et al. may be the best Brodmann atlases. They are
included in FSL http://www.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fsl/data/atlas...

Halleh,

Freesurfer generates labels for some of the Brodmann areas in its
default output. See:

https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswik...

and

https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/ftp/a...

This was done based on histology work performed by Katrin Amunts and
Karl Zilles. Freesurfer's cortical surface registration technique is
fold-based, and some BA's align nicely with folds better than others.
The generated labels include this probability info.
