Call to unify brain research Posted By: David Kennedy - Jan 24, 2012Tool/Resource: INCF Half a century ago on May 25th, president John F. Kennedy challenged the US to send a man to the moon within the next decade. Fifty years later, top scientists gather together with a diverse group of representatives from government, industry, academia, philanthropy and patients' associations to encourage the same sort of effort targeted toward brain and mental health research, calling it a "moonshot for the brain". Former US Congress representative Patrick Kennedy has worked with a group of top neuroscientists to launch the initiative, called "One Mind for Research", which aims to improve funding and unify efforts in brain science. The initiative will coordinate academic, industry and advocacy resources, and raise public and private funding and awareness, to pursue a 10-year scientific roadmap to develop better therapies and cures for brain disorders.
