AFNI
Hello,

I am currently attempting to run an AFNI script using  NITRC-CE however it seems that the version of AFNI is too old to recognize my script (does not have updated binaries- I cannot even run @update.afni.binaries . Has anyone else run into this problem? I have AFNI on my personal computer and it was able to run the script in its current state so I do not think it is an issue of the script itself. Is there a way to update the software on my instance despite not being an administrator/ having write permissions?

Thanks you!

RE: AFNI
Emily,

NITRC-CE uses NeuroDebian releases for much of its software, including AFNI, and as a result the CE software versions can lag slightly behind the latest releases.  It also appears that the update script isn't installed as part of the NeuroDebian package.

I would recommend installing the latest version of AFNI using the steps described on the AFNI web site (https://afni.nimh.nih.gov/pub/dist/doc/h...); root access can be gained on a CE instance by calling sudo as user ubuntu (the default user).  You might want to start with a NITRC-CE LITE instance, which has fewer packages preinstalled and will have less chance of conflict when installing AFNI.

We are looking into ways to make the latest versions of software available on CE, but that will come in the future.  Hopefully this will help you get your script working immediately.

RE: AFNI
Hi Emily,

The NITRC-CE image installs AFNI from the NeuroDebian repository and, unfortunately, the newest version is not yet available:

http://neuro.debian.net/pkgs/afni.html?h...

I thought a viable workaround would to be to start up a NITRC-CE LITE image and then install AFNI into it yourself:

https://afni.nimh.nih.gov/pub/dist/doc/h...

However, I tested this out and again, unfortunately, there is a bug in the AFNI @afni.install.binaries script that aborts the install. I am submitting a trouble ticket to the AFNI folks about this but that won't help your situation immediately.

What operating system do you have on your laptop that is able to run the @update.afni.binaries script?
