NITRC-CE, upgrade of Ubuntu 12.04
Dear NITRC-CE experts,
Thank you very much for this wonderful tool. It was really useful to construct my local PC environment on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Although this tool is really useful, Ubuntu 12.04 is a little bit old now and some useful tools don't work well on it.
I wonder what kind of troubles will happen when I upgrade into Ubuntu 14.04 or 16.06? Or are new versions of NITRC-CE on Ubuntu 14.04 or 16.04 available soon?
If possible, I want to know the best way to upgrade my local environment.
Sincerely,
Yuki

RE: NITRC-CE, upgrade of Ubuntu 12.04
We have been working on a CE release on Ubuntu 14.04, which should
be out by the end of the month. You can run the CE installer
yourself on an Ubuntu 14.04 machine (download from the "Downloads"
section of this project at http://www.nitrc.org/frs/?group_id=664) but there are some library and compatibility issues in resulting
machine.

RE: NITRC-CE, upgrade of Ubuntu 12.04
Thank you very much for you kind reply. I understand the situation.
I'm wondering following options. Which one is the best way?
1. Upgrade my current environment (CE on Ubuntu 12.04) into Ubuntu 14.04 in a regular way. Is it reasonable?
2. Is it possible to upgrade from CE on Ubuntu 12.04 into CE on Ubuntu 14.04 using the new release script?
3. Clean install of Ubuntu 14.04 and use the new release script after that. But, it will cost much time to reconstruct my environment.
Sincerely,
Yuki

As far as your options go:
1. You could try upgrading your machine directly, but I expect there will be dependency issues when you're done, although depending on the software you're using, they might not affect you. If you try this, take a snapshot before you start so you can roll back the machine if you need to.
2. In general, no; the install scripts are intended to be run on fresh Ubuntu installs.
3. This is probably the safest option, but as you say, it will take a little time to build and then you will have to move your data across. A shared (host-based) directory can help with this so you don't have to copy the data from one VM to another.

RE:NITRC-CE, upgrade of Ubuntu 12.04 (16.04?)
Dear Christian,
Following in the same line as Yuki Sakai's question, is there any update of NITRC-CE for Ubuntu 16.04?
Would it be possible? If so, how should I proceed?
Thank you very much,
Jaime

RE:NITRC-CE, upgrade of Ubuntu 12.04 (16.04?)
We are currently looking into upgrading NITRC-CE to Ubuntu 16 and
should have a release out in a month or two.
You can certainly try running the CE install script on a fresh Ubuntu 16 installation, but I understand that our release is proving more challenging than simply applying the script to the new release, so you're unlikely to get a fully-functioning CE as a result.
