NeuroMorpho.Org looking for software engineer
NeuroMorpho.Org is an open access award-winning database of neural reconstructions, representing millions of labor person-hours, that can be browsed, searched, and downloaded by animal species, brain region, and many user-defined criteria through an intuitive web interface and API. The recent automation of our data collection, standardization, and annotation process has enabled increased data sharing capacity and community engagement.

The project is maintained by the multidisciplinary Center for Neural Informatics, Structures, & Plasticity (CN3) at the Krasnow Institute of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, 15 miles from Washington DC. CN3 is an internationally renowned Neuroinformatics research group, led by Prof. Giorgio Ascoli. We are seeking a talented and driven software engineer to join our team at CN3 and help us continue to innovate and improve the capabilities of our platform.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying cutting-edge software applications and systems that enable users to browse, search, and download neural reconstructions and metadata. You will work closely with our senior research staff to understand the ongoing requirements of our users and to ensure that our platform remains up to date with the latest scientific developments.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field with at least two (2) years of experience; or master's degree in the same field, preferably with one (1) year of experience.
• Must be willing to work on-site at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA, with hybrid work available.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong software design and engineering skills, with expertise in the development life cycle.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with modern relational database design and maintenance using SQL.
• Experience developing in multiple layers of the modern software stack, including designing API backends as well as frontend applications in JavaScript and HTML.
• Familiarity with the Linux operating system, as well as server maintenance in general.
• Familiarity with version control, DevOps and CI/CD concepts, and experience employing them in project work
• Familiarity with deploying to both local and cloud environments is a plus.
• Ability to work in a small team using a variety of skills on multiple projects.
