Octave vs Matlab vs Python for Neuroimaging research
Most EEG and fMRI Neuroimaging analysis software still run on
Matlab (SPM, EEGLAB, Fieldtrip). Matlab is great, except it is not
free. Octave, a free alternative to Matlab, has made a great effort
to develop compatible graphics compatible with Matlab (for example
EEGLAB scripts runs on
Octave https://sccn.ucsd.edu/wiki/Running_EEGLAB_on_Octave).
Python usage is still rising and a language of choice for Cloud
computing.
