Notes:
Multi-site Cognitive & Calibration Paradigms used in Functional
Imaging studies: Phase I and Phase II
These are E-prime programs for presenting stimuli to, collecting
responses, and analyzing behavior from subjects.
They measure a range of cognitive processes and were used by the
FBIRN sites.
The paradigms includes:
•Sensorimotor Tasks: Two versions of a sensorimotor task (with and
without auditory
stimuli, with 3Hz finger tapping or with 2Hz irregular finger
tapping; one set up for 3 s TR and one for 2 s TR)
•Breath hold Tasks: Two versions of a Breathhold task (one set up
for a 3 s TR,
using a visual circle as a cue to breathe or not; one for a 2 s TR,
using red/yellow/green to cue breathing).
•Working memory Tasks: Two versions of a Serial Item Recognition
Paradigm (with and
without an explicit motor baseline condition; one set up for 3 s TR
and one for 2s TR)
•An Auditory Oddball Task: These were configured to run on displays
that were
1280x1024, and to take input through the Serial Response Box
(SRBox) from Psychology Software Tools.
The fMRI compatible response box was wired to the SRBox.
All of these programs are provided as-is; they are not to be
considered the best or only
instantiation of these cognitive paradigms.
EPRIME Phase I Paradigms were used in the FBIRN traveling subjects
study of 2003 (the Phase I study; Series A, Step 3).
EPRIME Phase II Paradigms were used in the FBIRN's multi-site Phase
II study (Series A, Step 4) of 2004-2006.
These require the purchase and availability of E-prime from
Psychology Software Tools, Inc. (http://www.pstnet.com/products/e-prime/) before they will run.
The paradigms were programmed in E-Prime and assume that each site
has that software and the
PST Stimulus Response Box available, though they can be modified to
work with other response devices.
Installation information:
To install any of these programs, download the chosen ZIP file to
your preferred directory and unzip it.
Each program needs to have its own directory. Double-click on the
appropriate *.es file
and compile it as you would any E-prime program.
