Does nifti not store any sort of UID from the original image file? I don't see it in any of the header fields.

Hi Vanessa,

Whether that UID is for the subject or the user of the software, there is no
explicit field for it in NIfTI.  Such information might fit into a GIfTI header
(surface data format), but the NIfTI format is pretty tight, being based on
ANALYZE.

Also, in light of most users wanting data to be anonymous, such a field might
not be well used.
