Dear Riya,
First of all, can you run spm12 or spm8 independently if you set path to your Matlab?
Personally I won't use Matlab 32bit on Windows 32bit because SPM produces lots of out of memory error...
Are there any reasons you need to stick to Matlab 32bit on Windows 32bit?

I tried the same thing with the same modified script (spms) in my personal laptop ( MAC OS) and it worked perfectly.
