This statement, by the way, I disagree with. At least in its generality. People's ethics can be quite flexible if they get something out of a deal. If there is some very useful resource with only slightly sketchy conditions attached, I bet many people would ignore the potential issues (or choose not to think about them too hard in the first place). The more useful the resource, in my opinion, the more sketchy the conditions you can get away with.

At this point I should probably remind everyone once again that I used SPM as a "fictional" example in this context. :)

Agree with the point that people's ethics can be quite flexible. [Sadly, that includes me. ]

But while my ethics can be flexible, if the community's collective ethics is more stringent than mine and I fell foul of, I won't be able to publish and will have to use another software, won't I?
