I don't think for neuroscience they will want Linux source code ... unless you modify the Linux source code. ;-)
Modifications are of course not the issue, the issue is documenting the code that was actually implicated in the analysis, so that it can be reproduced reliably.  Reproducibility, if we take it seriously, requires more than simply knowing what distribution was used.
