I agree that is it a bit of an advertisement, but also I think Andy is trying to see if the community believes in a licensing business model. The plethora of visible human "products" demonstrates that there is some space in our community for licensing labeled data.

As a grad student, I did not understand why we couldn't just buy a pre-configured and supported machine for neuroimage process. Now, I see why the economics don't make sense. I see this thread as a viable direction for conversation.

If folks have ideas for funding/developing "public data resources", then I personally would be very interested to hear them.

If folks think this is a crazy business scheme (like the fake passports that hit NITRC last night), then I think that might make for an interesting discussion too.
