Hi Luis,
I'll try to make this my last email on this particular discussion, but I think here the phrase "in furtherance of the ... business" would, for the CC-BY-NC licence rather than this patent's licence, become "*primarily* in furtherance of the business", which I still consider to be an important distinction.
Less clear, but seeming reasonable to me, would be a related change from "strictly philosophical inquiry" to "primarily philosophical inquiry". Again, I would argue that entering a segmentation challenge is primarily philosophical inquiry, not primarily the furtherance of my/the university's business -- and Luis, your change from "business" to "mission" seems non-trivial to me; the university may indeed make money from grants/tuition etc., but any university worthy of the name has a mission grander than purely business.
I will now close by saying what great guys Andy and Bennett are, so hopefully they won't take me to court if I'm wrong about all this ;-)
